“Old” keeps getting Older

What’s the big deal?


For those of you that didn’t know, yesterday was my birthday.  As I reflected on all the years I have behind me, and all the ones that lie ahead (if that’s part of the plan) I couldn’t help but ask the question…”Why do we spend so much time and money trying to act like we are not getting older?”

Granted, there are some great things from my past that I would love to relive, but there’s a lot that I wouldn’t.  When I get on the scales, I often ask where the high metabolism went.  When I look in the mirror, I often wonder what these new lines are zigzagging from the corners of my eyes.

Then it hit me…everyone else still on this side of the grave is getting older too.  I took a break from some of the more pressing issues and had a little fun in today’s article in The Jackson Sun.  Here’s an excerpt:

What is old?  I remember when I was a kid, my parents were old.  I remember the days of black balloons and signs reading, “Over the Hill,” only to think how awful it must be to turn 40.  Although I haven’t hit this milestone yet, forty is sure to be the new 30.  Continue reading…
