Be a Dog…Without Fleas of Course

Why is our dog so crazy?

Henry

The picture above is the kinder-gentler version.  This animal has continued to eat and grow.  His name is Henry and he is the best dog we have ever had, although he is still CRAZY.  As we continue to get to know each other and learn where boundaries are, I wanted to take a moment to share some lessons learned from our version of “man’s best friend”.

First of all, let me just say I don’t know where the derogatory phrase of “He’s such a dog” came from.  I’m sure it would be quite offensive to Henry and his other four-legged friends.  I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it is said all the time.

2 Reasons You Should Be a Dog

1.  Happiness – No matter what time of day, what the temperature is outside, what you said the last time they saw you, how much money you made…No matter what, Henry is always happy to see us.  Can you imagine the impact each of us could have if we were always happy to see those around us.  This goes for those within our homes, in our offices, and everyone else we interact with throughout the day.

2.  Loyalty – No animal is any more loyal than a dog, and Henry is no exception.  Even when he decides to chew something completely up, and is put into his kennel or reminded the old fashioned way, he emerges just as loyal as before.  In today’s corporate environment, there are many temptations to not be loyal, but those who we count on are those who are loyal to us.  We should be loyal to those around us, not only when it benefits us but always.

Warning – Don’t pass on fleas.  Dogs can often get these pesky critters and they are not desired by anyone, dogs and humans alike.  Sometimes we have to take the good with the bad, but if we are looking for lessons from our dog…let’s keep it to happy and loyal.

    Dave,

I’ve learned a lot from my dogs. Here’s a post I wrote about the Leadership Lessons I Learned from my Dog. http://www.leadwithgiants.com/leadership/leadership-lessons-from-my-dog/

  2. My dogs have taught me quite a bit. Most recently, that tough choices have to be made. I’d share more in the comment but, you know…
