[Faithful Fridays] Keep Your Head Up!

Have you ever wondered…”Why me?”

You know what I’m talking about.  Those moments when you are thinking you can’t take any more.  If you are anything like me, it seems when it rains it pours.  This is especially true for people of faith.

Often, Christians believe they are immune to bad things happening to them.  This is by no means Scriptural, but new believers are especially vulnerable to questioning their faith when bad things happen to them.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus was summoned to the bedside of Lazarus.  He did not arrive prior to Lazarus dying and his sisters were not happy.  John records the following words:

When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” John 11:32

Have we ever uttered those words to God?  It is interesting to remember, Jesus could have arrived prior to death, but chose not to.  His timing is perfect, and though we may not understand it, we should not be so arrogant to believe God was wrong and we were right.

I am reminded of a classic line from the movie “Catch Me if You Can” from the character, Frank Abagnale Sr.

Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn’t quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out.

Being a Christ follower does not prevent us from having to struggle through this life.  What it does guarantee us is we are not going through this life alone.  We have a Father who loves us and reminds us His grace is sufficient.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 11:30, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  When we are His, His words are ours.  This is not because of how strong and awesome we are, rather how strong He is.
