Did You Choose Your Dad?

Did you choose your dad?  I didn’t either, but I got a great one.  I never knew how difficult it was to be a father until I become one 4 years ago. Wow, what an amazing responsibility.  My children do not come with instruction booklets, and I know I didn’t either.  I love my dad more with each passing day, and a few thank you’s are in order.

  1. Thank you for loving God.
  2. Thank you for saying yes when I wanted to play catch after you had a long day at work.
  3. Thank you for showing me what it means to love and respect your wife.
  4. Thank you for modeling the importance of being involved and regularly attending church.
  5. Thank you for coming to every baseball game I ever played, and never ebarassing me or complaining to a coach regarding my play.
  6. Thank you for showing me what it means to love your wife “in sickness and in health”, as you stood by mom’s side through chemotherapy treatments and so much more for over  9 1/2 years.
  7. Thank you for showing me how to love my kids.
  8. Thank you for showing me what it means to give back to those less fortunate than we are.
  9. Thank you for loving me.
  10. Thank you for loving my wife, as if she were your own daughter.

We don’t get to choose our parents.  Some of us just get lucky and are blest with great ones.  As Brad Paisley sang about… I Hope I’m at Least Half the Man He Didnt Have to Be.  I am so glad to have an example of what success looks like.  Happy Fathers Day Dad!
